Job Description

Summary:  This position is responsible for managing inventory and service across our network of distribution warehouses and production facilities.   

Duties to include (not limited to):

  • Proficiency with purchasing software: placing orders, item set-up/maintenance, and tracking shipments
  • Provide accurate commitment dates and lead-times
  • Service inquiries on orders, invoices, and vendor programs
  • Knowledge of WSC operations and procedures
  • Maintain proper inventory levels to maximize turns, while avoiding product back-orders
  • Assist in new vendor set-up and product/program launches
  • Work with vendors to minimize leadtimes, reduce costs, and expedite orders
  • Ability to work on continuous improvement projects

Job Requirements

A Buyer will possess and/or demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of purchasing and distribution best practices
    • Experience in the field of construction and/or building materials is a plus
  • Ability to process and manipulate data
  • Excellent interpersonal skills regarding teamwork and servicing our customers
  • Developed oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Enthusiasm and a positive approach to problem solving

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma required 
    • Secondary education a plus
  • 3+ years of procurement or supply chain experience is required
    • APICS Certified (CPIM or CSCP) is a plus

Reports to:  Director of Supply Chain

Conclusion:  The Buyer will exemplify the core values (safety, service, integrity, innovation) that have come to be associated with WSC.  The position’s prime objective is managing inventory to balance our customer’s needs with proper inventory levels that allow the company’s financial goals to be reached.
