Job Description

Summary:  The General Ledger Accountant will be responsible for the analysis and accuracy of the general ledger, including correcting errors and, with the assistance of the Accounting Manager, work with individuals within the accounting department to provide ongoing training regarding accuracy. This position is also responsible for entering month-end journal entries, monitoring accruals, and preparing month-end balance sheet reconciliations.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the General Ledger Specialist will be responsible for sales and use tax reporting in multiple states and will work closely with the Accounting Manager in maintaining sales tax rates in the ERP system while working with customer service and credit departments to monitor appropriate sales tax calculations and proactively correct errors.

Additionally, this position will provide oversight of the fixed asset software while protecting assets and enforcing internal controls.

Duties to include:

  • Responsible for fixed asset maintenance by recording additions, disposals, transfers and monthly depreciation
  • Conducting fixed asset audits for various asset categories
  • Preparation of annual MR & MP property tax filings
  • Multi-state sales & use tax reporting with states as required
  • Various duties for transportation reporting
  • Daily review of open orders reports to monitor margins, pricing, restock fees and terms for exceptions
  • Maintenance of spreadsheets and monthly recording for property tax, utilities and truck rental accruals
  • Recording daily journal entries, as needed
  • Processing of utility and corporate expense invoices in document retention system
  • Month-end close process for standard monthly journal entries
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations; providing analysis of account balances
  • Processing of monthly travel expense reports for sales
  • Other duties as assigned

 Education / Experience:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Microsoft Excel and PowerBI proficiency required
  • Experience in general ledger accounting preferred
